hail

it’s raining, it’s snowing, it’s hailing, it’s foggy, and we are stuck inside. Ike has cabin fever and i think i do too.

[snow trucks are exciting!]

kisses

today has been a weird day. i think i have been listening to too much NPR news lately. the news is bleak and scary and I think it has made me a little bleak and scared.

on a good note, we made bread and a delicious curried sweet potato soup for dinner tonight.

on a wonderful note, my son was snuggling with me a lot today… and giving lots of open mouth kisses {that’s how he kisses right now}. moxy and ike have been kissing a lot too… and moxy uses tongue. pretty gross!

[ike loves to look in the oven and see what’s baking. sometimes he’ll add a really big, “oooh” when he’s excited about what he sees]

martha

i have a confession. i LOVE Martha. and not just a little. A LOT. i think she is incredibly talented & smart, and she has amazing taste and hires people with incredible taste & design skills… she just does everything {and I mean everything down to the smallest details} with impeccable style.

you might wonder what took me so long to realize this... i've had a subscription to her magazine on and off for years... i guess at the age of 36, i just got in touch with my domestic diva side... which is a 'good thing'!

crumble

i am super happy that the weekend is here. i get time to catch up on some sleep, cuddle with my little love bug, and have a date night with the hubster.

tonight we are going to a little dinner party at Nina’s. i made these little blueberry + peach crumbles for dessert… i hope they taste as good as they look.

vacuum

one of my favorite things lately is that every time i start vacuuming, Ike mimics me with his vacuum or the extension from our vacuum. he’s very serious about it too. he vacuums with gusto. it would be really great if his vacuum actually worked!

mend

this weekend ike came down with a serious bug... spiking fevers, no appetite, and quite miserable. after two doctors visits and a trip to the hospital lab & xray unit, it was declared that he had some sort of infection. thanks to antibiotics and a wonderfully fabulous mother {me} the little man is on the mend.

sick

we {ike} got hit with a cold on saturday... a runny nose, achy, feverish, yucky cold!
ike hasn't been sleeping well, which means that alex & i have not been sleeping well. which stinks because we bicker when we're both tired.
so it's been a lot of fun at our house. won't you come over?

brrr

our pipes froze this morning. this has happened once before and our plumber charged us a ridiculously high price to come out... so i am determined to fix this myself. it would help if the outside temperature could get above 1 degree.
to keep warm, we're hanging in the kitchen and baking bread, making applesauce and sipping warm drinks.

desk

ugh, my desk is a mess! every time that I remove a piece of paper, two more sprout up. agh. on another note, how cute is my little boy {pretty cute... right?}

haircut

How do you like Ike’s slightly shorter hair? I cut it today. I probably should just take him to a professional hairdresser, but he just needs a teeny bit removed and I am worried they will hack away all of his baby hair.

Is it weird that my son loves to run around with blankets or kitchen towels on his head? He always runs into the dog! And Moxy always makes it well known that Ike is annoying him.

dance

My husband has a "sushi dance"... he loves sushi so much that every time someone puts a plate of sushi in front of him he does this {really bad} dance. Occasionally, he will pull out the sushi dance for other delicious meals as well. If you get him to do the dance, you made one mean meal. It turns out that my son likes to dance when he's excited about food too. This afternoon, I gave him a cookie {which he shoved completely in his mouth} and he started to dance.

snow

we ended up staying home. we bundled up the ike man & took him outside for his first sledding adventure. he was very disinterested --- he preferred running & walking in the snow {hopefully that will change as he gets a little older}. moxy is the biggest snow loving dog... it's sooo cute!

sleep

The hubster and I are supposed to hit a ‘gourmet’ event at Seven Springs mountain resort tomorrow… which sounds wonderful and I’m sure that it will be except that we were only supposed to drive up for the day, and now they are calling for a huge snow storm {which I typically would LOVE!}. The problem you ask? My sister is watching Ike and Ike is a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad sleeper! I hate to put her out with Ike and his lack of sleep.

Off to make cookies while I figure out the details.

growing

i was just cleaning out my inbox and came across this short video that Ike's Nina {grandma} took. it's so cute. i want to be able to hold that sturdy little baby one more time. ike's growing up soooo quickly!

new year's resolutions

i'm just finishing my new year's resolutions and I am pretty happy with the results. last year I had a larger list {and I accomplished most of them}, but this year I wanted to keep it short & sweet. here's the list:

(1.) do yoga or pilates {i didn't say how frequently, but I hope to do it twice a week... that's attainable... right?}

(2.) love, communicate, cherish, enjoy, teach & prepare my son {self explanatory}

(3.) eat 7 - 12 servings of fruits & vegetables a day {it's a proven fact! a diet high in fruits & vegetables prevents all kinds of diseases}

(4.) take vitamins {again, if we don't have our health...}

(5.) spend less time online {it's official- the Internet is my crack. I am an online addict}

(6.) host more dinner parties {i love hanging with our friends. me and the hubster must do this more often}

bread

I made my first loaf of bread today {not including what we baked in my 10th grade home ec class}. It bombed. So I made another loaf of bread {using a different recipe}, and it was a success. The house smelled wonderful! And it was delicious! Ike wanted nothing to do with it. He just wanted to squeeze all of the juice out of his Clementine.
